The Blue Flag programme is run by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and is one of the world's most recognised voluntary eco-labels. Anavros, Thessaly, Greece holds current Blue Flag certification, meeting the programme's 33 annual criteria for water quality, safety, and environmental management. The beach is managed by VOLOU.

Anavros beach, 600 m long and 30 m wide, is sandy with rocks for breakwaters. Anavros is fully organized with two entrances, one with stairs, wooden paths, cabines, showers, deck chairs and sun umbrellas free of charge, trash-recycling cans, chemical WC for all and chemical WC for disabled people. The beach is accessible to disabled people, providing ramps and sea tracks for entering into the sea. Anavros is a busy beach so a lifeguard is available at all times with all the necessary equipment. Anavros beach is located at the centre of Volos, giving visitors the opportunity of immediate access to all facilities a modern city can offer (hotels, restaurants, shops, flea markets, museums etc) and services (banks, tourist offices, public transport, car/ bike/yacht rental, etc) while at the same time allowing them to relax near a quiet beach, enjoying swimming in clean sea waters. Right close to Anavros Park there is the church of Holy Trinity with murals of the painter George Gounaropoulos, the Athanasakion Archeaological Museum with rich archaeological findings and the Folklore Museum of Kitsos Makris with paintings from Theofilos, Byzantine icons, woodcarvings, ceramics. Along the coast there are cafes, restaurants and tsipouradika that are open until late in the night. Above Anavros beach there is Goritsa hill where visitors can walk to the top and enjoy from above a panoramic view of Volos city and Pagasitikos Bay. Also up on the hill there is the church of Zoodohos Pigi and at the foothills the church of Panagia Tripa - Goritsa carved in a rock. Close to Anavros beach there is the NOVA Sailing Yaght Club for rowing, sailing and canoe – kayak and a mooring spot for small boats. Near Anavros beach there is the Hospital, the passenger and commercial port of Volos, the Railway Station and the Intercity Bus Station.
